Utrecht railway station area

Utrecht's railway station area is the second best business center of the Netherlands (Cushman & Wakefield, 2020). The centrally-located area distinguishes itself with inner-city dynamics and a functional mix. This mix includes; easily accessible public transport, affordable office spaces and other facilities within walking distance such as the new Hoog Catharijne shopping complex, the Beatrix Theaterer, the international exhibition centre Jaarbeurs and Utrecht’s historic city centre. Schiphol Airport can be reached in just 30 minutes from the recently renovated Utrecht Central Station. Examples of office locations: WTC Utrecht, HNK, Creative Valley Utrecht CS and Social Impact Factory.

Current developments will result in the city centre expanding towards the west of the railway station. The planning is underpinned by the principle of healthy, smart urbanisation that affords access to a good mix of facilities. The design of the highly sustainable building ‘Wonderwoods' in the Healthy Urban Quarter exemplifies the overall approach: a balanced environment where people, nature and technology come together in harmony.
